Larry A. Smith, R.Ph. is the Vice President of Pharmacy Services. Mr. Smith became associated with the company as Director of Pharmacy at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney, South Carolina in 1990. As an employee of Owen Healthcare, Inc., he was promoted to Regional Manager in 1992 with management responsibilities for the majority of HMA pharmacy departments. He was promoted to Vice President in 1998 and assumed full responsibilities of HMA pharmacies. He officially joined the company in April 2000 as Vice President of Pharmacy Services. Mr. Smith has been in the healthcare field for 38 years, 17 years in retail pharmacy, 5 years as a hospital staff employee, and 16 years in executive leadership. Prior to joining Health Management Associates, Mr. Smith owned and operated two retail pharmacies, worked for ABC & CBS News, Hospital Pharmacy, Owen Healthcare, and Cardinal Healthcare. Mr. Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Tennessee. Mr. Smith also attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Smith is a pharmacist and a member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Mr. Smith serves as a member of Health Connect Partners Educational Advisory Board and the HealthTrust Purchasing Group Pharmacy Board.
